I purchased some mini-wheat cereal yesterday to see if the boys would like it. It seemed like the right mixture of sugar and fiber, and although I thought the texture would be questionable to them, again I thought the sugar would win in the end.
As soon as I put the cereal in front of Bubba, he said "Mom? This keeps you focused!" and then he devoured the cereal like it was candy (well, according to the sugar content, it kinda is...).
It is just scary how much marketing influences him over anything else. You could seriously put shit on a bun and put it in a McDonald's wrapper, and he would eat it with gusto. This makes me sad, but I really don't know what to do about it.

Ouch! Wish I had an aswer for you...
I know we're going to be in trouble when they come out with "God" brand toothpaste.
G has extreme difficulty saving and spending money. If he has it, he doesn't think of what he might NEED later. He's also prone to marketing schemes.
*snort* I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM! Boo started eating cereal with a spoon cause he saw it on TV. 2 years of therapy and nada. Freaking TV and he works and works until he can do it.
Sigh. If only I could get someone from one of his favourite shows to come and teach him to wipe his own arse.
Oh, the morning candy. I prefer what I call "nuts and twigs", but then we have to buy cereal for me and for the rest of the family.
TV does more harm than good. Videos don't have commercials but kids memorize the dialogue and repeat it over and over.
Particularly for autistic children it's better to have no TV. There's just too much noise and flashing colors and senseless stimulation.
